... flowers and Spirit...

It feels very Fall-like outside. I took a long walk this morning and delighted in the fact that a Spirit Halloween store has been added to my small town. It isn't that I love the Spirit Halloween store. It's basically the dollar store for Halloween... But it's the dollar store for Halloween that is a hop, skip and a jump from my house!

Fall blooms are here. My Gerbera daisies (pictured above) are beginning to bloom and I have Helenium blooming in my front yard.  Gerbera daisies are the fifth most used cut flower in the world (after the rose, carnation, chrysanthemum, and tulip).

This is a field pansy (Viola rafinesquii) wild pansy or a Johnny-Jump Up. Some consider them to be weeds but I think this little purple bloom is stunning so I’m not pulling him!

My hibiscus is still blooming. Here's a bloom from this morning. I could take a hundred pictures of these and never do the bloom justice. I know, then why do I keep posting pictures of them! Still...

  1. Pansies are my mother's favorite. Fall came early this year, didn't it? No flowers in NYC, but our city oaks are dropping acorns and some of the honey locust trees are dropping their pods. No changing leaves though. I need to get to the halloween stores...there's a spirit right by my work!

    1. I'm waiting for some trickery such as another 90 degree day. I'm outside of Richmond, Va and we've been known to have some hot Halloweens. I have one eye on Mother Nature ;p

  3. I love all kinds of flowers, but there is something about pansies- I always see them as sulky little faces that make me smile!

Bring on the discount stores! I love those places! I need another pair of faery wings, neither of my pairs are quite right!

    1. First Halloween discount store in this small town; next stop, goth shop. Okay, okay but a girl can dream.

  4. I'm another fan of the little pansy - I used to plant them in my grandparents garden with them when I was very young. I've got a soft spot for gerberas as well, there is something very sunny and happy about their formation. They all look lovely in your garden.

  5. I love putting pansies and violas in strawberry pots, they really jazz things up!

Unfortunately, I must disagree that Spirit store is the Halloween dollar store... at least around here, it's a LOT more expensive!!! I actually prefer going to Dollar Tree, Rite Aid, Walgreen's or CVS for my Halloween stuff, Spirit store is really overpriced. I wonder why yours is so much cheaper...?

    1. Maybe it's the ridiculously cheap stuff I buy there?!? For example, today a $4.99 bat ring.
