...the season of baking...

While my house is Halloween 365, 'tis the season of the pumpkin.

Since I teach a vampire course, I'll share a fun fact about pumpkins and vampires. Some regions in the Balkans believed that pumpkins would become vampires if they were left out longer than 10 days. But never fear, vampire do not have fangs!  Although you can buy some for your pumpkin on Etsy.

Aside from going to the local farms and picking up the big orange squash, I enjoy trying all the pumpkin tasty treats. Yesterday morning I had a Williams-Sonoma Spiced Pecan Pumpkin Pancake test drive using the W-S Halloween pancake molds. That pumpkin spatula isn't new but it was fun to use while flipping pumpkin pancakes.

This begins my favorite season for baking! I'm prefer salty to sweet but this is also the season of parties and get-togethers. Yesterday, my new dessert stand arrived. I've had the same cake stand for over a decade. In fact, my BFF and I say we dual-own it since it often goes back and forth between our homes. It's a bit bulky but plain so I always have to find a home for it. This new one, the SPIDER WEB 2-TIER CAKE PLATTER, from Signal caught my eye and I just had to have it! After all, as I've said before, my last name actually means *child of the land of spiders*. Made from a heavy lacquered aluminum, this can actually be taken apart and stored (although I plan for it to live on top of another single-level cake stand on top of my refrigerator.

  1. I learned about vampire pumpkins from one of my vampire encyclopedias, I told my fiance and he couldn't believe it lol. It reminded me of a Goosebumps book where a sponge came alive and tried to kill people lol.

    1. I remember reading some of those Goosebumps books when I taught middle school. My students loved them... and so did I! One thing that is nice now about teaching college level is that I teach Adolescent Literature so I still *have to* read the books to keep up to date :p

    2. That reminds me... The Zack Files by Dan Greenburg are another great series for even younger readers. Zack Files 27: My Teacher Ate My Homework is my favorite... substitute teacher Mrs. Wolfowitz is, um, not exactly human :D

    3. I've never heard of The Zack Files, I'll have to check them out! My friend's daughter is crazy about the Goosebump books, it's nice to see that it's carried forward with newer generations. :)
