...better than walking through a web...

The next time you see a spider web, please, pause and look a little closer.

Before I headed out for New Orleans, I was desperately waiting for the Spider Web Barrette that I ordered from The Bronze Jewelers, a small family business out of Florida. It isn’t that it took a while to arrive but that my fella accidentally picked it up and slipped it in with his gaming packages. Hmph. So I only briefly mentioned the product when I was basically heading out to the conference. I snapped a picture in the mirror because taking a picture of the back of one’s head is a bit challenging.

I wanted to write about it in a bit more detail because I think it’s a quality item that’s worth mentioning.

When I came across the item on their Etsy page, I couldn’t exactly tell the size of the barrette. I watched Kara’s YouTube video that I came across and I really liked how the tutorial walked you through putting up your hair with one of their hair sticks/barrettes. She was casual about it and put the hair stick in her back pocket. Something about that made me smile. She also said that you could bend the barrette to make it work with longer or shorter hair. They seemed like a real family business. From their Facebook page, I can tell that they go to local artist events to sell their products. What can I say, I’m a sucker for artisans.

I used to wear similar accessories like this when I was younger although I have never seen a web-shaped one before, and I always enjoyed the ease of the wear. I will say that some of the ones I wore in my youth really pulled on my hair and sometimes gave me a headache. I can’t wear many headbands because they annoy me and give me a headache; yet, I actually have a pretty tough scalp. I sometimes joke that I could hang from air in a circus if it weren’t for the unfortunate point of being unable to twirl which would really give me terrible vertigo. Anyway, I digress. The Bronze Jewelers web barrette is so light and comfortable I almost don’t even notice that it is in my hair. As soon as I ordered the item, Kara sent me a message to check for sizing. Based on my hair length, I ordered the Medium. And they’re right, I can put up all of my hair or just some of my hair. I really like that feature.

My favorite part of all… and this will seem a bit silly but if you get ready early in the morning like I do, you don’t have time to mess around. The “stick” is connected to the web so you can’t lose it. It’s such a simple feature that happens to be pretty darn significant at least for me.

I also appreciate that they included a cleaning cloth. It’s just a nice touch. The barrette is reasonably priced for an actual hand-crafted item.

The Bronze Jewelers have several other similar products that you might like to check out. The spider web is my favorite though.
