...walking to work (sort of) ...

The Curious Professor Z kicked off Bat Fit 2016 and I really tried to ignore the posts. I mean, I’ve gained about ten pounds since May and the stress of this semester has me chomping on the Halloween candy and guzzling holiday lattes. I was in no mood to take a look at that which needed to be seen. I have a crazy commute; it’s dark in the morning when I leave for work and in the evening when I get home. And, I just can’t leave the office mid-day for a walk. My job just doesn’t work that way. Blah, blah, blah. I really stuck with the mentality that I would think about losing the weight after the semester or postpone exercising until the summer.

But last week the weather was so nice that when my train pulled into Union Station, I decided to walk the 1.25 miles to work. It was a beautiful walk. So, the next day, I walked again. And then I walked a third day. Then on Saturday I got up and pruned my yard for a few hours. Turns out that *moving*, the first challenge for November, isn’t as challenging as I thought.

You see, I love walking and I love being outdoors. I’ve been figuring out ways to lighten my work bags so that carrying everything doesn’t break my back. I’m not committing to walking this route daily but I have to admit that it was super nice. I might not get the 30 minutes of new moving a day (I do already walk a quarter plus mile from the parking lot to the train and then again from the train to the parking lot but I'm only counting what I actually add.)

Here are some of the sights along the way.

  1. YAY! I know how you feel. I was just out with the dog in the rain. I'm sick again. And I know that I have to "move" and eat better. I was lamenting that I should have stuck with a January 1st Bat Fit Kick Off. sigh ... ah well. Baby steps turn out to be a whole lot bigger in the end, don't they?

    1. I keep telling myself that walking to work wasn't a plan but then I enjoy it and I do it the next day. I think I added 5 miles alone this week just from that! Baby steps woot!

  2. Oh no, the moment you mention Union Station I got so many memories flooding my mind. Not fair! :D The surrounding area is so beautiful! And I remember those little street libraries and how astonished I was because the idea of them is great and we do not have them in Finland.

    1. They're amazing, aren't they. One day you should build your own.

Your comment makes me miss you. What fun we had last year :)

  3. Looks like a really lovely walk. I love walking too, and don't mind that it is dark or when it gets colder. I do avoid it though when it gets to be about -30C. Here on the Canadian prairies January walks can be challenging, so I will enjoy the nicer weather while it lasts.
