Ignore the laundry on the sofa. It's folded at least! |
When I'm in a cemetery, my heart breaks when there is a monument that has fallen over. I can't do much about that but I can and I do garden! In fact, on my recent trip with my father, I was pruning the perennials that were planted by the gravestones, and I was removing the grass and weeds that were growing over the veteran brass plates. I wished that I had had better tools and gloves. I'll know for next time.
Of course, I doubt my cousins would understand that I actually like the ~look~ of graves. I like the look so much that when Pottery Barn (yes, I know... it's an addiction) came out with their Chalkboard Tombstones, I purchased them instantly (with a 20% off total purchase coupon!)... and then waited and waited and waited. They arrived today and GWEEE! They are adorable. Technically they're supposed to be placed outdoors but I think they'll find a home in my house somewhere. Now, what witty inscriptions shall I add... hmmm.
Very nice tombstones. I know how you feel, I had a family member call me "ratbag" in a "loving way". I really like your carriage thingy in the background you have.
ReplyDeleteA ratbag! Hmph.
DeleteThanks. That's a F.A. Whitney Carriage Co. wicker perambulator from the turn of the century :D
"Flake" over here, all because I chose grad school over a good job. My aunt tried to say that calling someone a flake isn't a bad thing and that I don't know the meaning of the word. Sigh ...
ReplyDeleteOooo, nice tombstones. We aren't buying anything huge this year since we're back in an apartment. Ah well.
It's important to note that I live in a small townhouse AND I have NO sense of measurements. I had no idea the tombstones were... err... tombstone size :-/ Don't get me wrong, I love them... but where they will live is a completely different story :D
DeleteOh, those tombstones are fantastic!!! I haven't had any of my friends or family call me names (knock on wood!), but most of my family lives very far away so I rarely if ever see any of them, and most of my friends now ARE goth/alt, so not an issue. At work, they're used to me, and it's a pretty laid-back place dress-wise, not to mention I live in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. We're EXPECTED to be a bit strange here... ;-)
ReplyDeleteA few years ago, I added dark purple highlights to my hair as a "Yay! I earned tenure and now y'all can't fire for this". My university is quite conservative in dress even though it's in Washington, D.C. Still, not one person really batted an eye. Of course, this only encourages me to see how far I go.
DeleteI think the Administrators consider me "interesting" in the sense that students like my courses and me.
I haven't seen my cousins in half a decade and I think they figured I would grow out of being goth. Nope.
Don't you love being able to do things like that and thumb your nose at boringness??? I certainly do!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteYep! I sure do :D
DeleteMy family and most of my friends never got me. It took me til I was 17 to find my boyfriend who got me and til about 2 years ago (24 years old or so) to find most of the friends who actually get me too. :)
ReplyDeleteMy fella, whom I didn't get to meet until I was 36, says that the most important thing is not to be loved but to be understood. It's awesome that you've found your people in your early to mid 20's, and your own fella at 17!
