...It’s beginning to look a lot like….

This is the time of year that I start stalking websites and local stores for the first peep of Halloween. As many of us say, Halloween isn’t a holiday… it’s a lifestyle! I keep my home in Halloween décor year round but this is the time of year that is both my shopping season and the time when others embrace what I love.

For the most part, I’m super lucky that I’m a creature of habit and that I have the tendency to make myself a *regular*. Partly this is because it’s the South and we chat quite often with shop owners just out of culture but I also look a bit different and have a pretty specific taste. There are a few shop owners who call me this time of year whenever they get in something bat-related.

Even the chains get excited about Halloween. I love my local Pier 1 Imports. Last Thursday when I went in to see if Halloween was up, they didn't have anything out; yet, Kathy, the manager who knows me as Halloween Girl, started digging in the back to see if she could find this skeleton hand bracelet! She did. The other manager took me in the back for a behind the scenes sneak peek. That was pretty awesome considering I am usually only in there a few times a year. Yesterday when I returned, they had a few more items out. I was completely sold on the ghost and pumpkin glimmer strings! Not only are they battery operated but they’re compatible with a remote control. I can even change the settings from a regular glow to a candle flicker! Plus, I can program them on a timer all from one remote control (for as many strings as you have! You just have to point it in the right direction).
At night! ^o^

New version
After my little trip to Pier 1, I headed to Bath & Body Works because I was fussy that they changed the shape of the hand-sanitizers. The Curious Professor Z told me that change was good but I was all hmph and pouty about it. I actually ordered the new bat hand-sanitizer holder online along with some Vampire Blood because it is the best scent ever! It’s plum! Or rather “Transylvanian plum” per their description. But since I’ve been sick and cooped up in the house, I’ve been a little down. I figured if I stopped in and saw some Halloween I would be all cheered up! Plus, I was hoping to stock up on the old bottles so that I could siphon hand-sanitizer in and be able to use my old bats :p

Again, I saw the same shop lady from last year and she remembered me. She went to the back and brought out the new bat holder with a little Vampire Blood. Goodness Gracious! Professor Z was right! My little black heart is big enough to love all bat paraphernalia and this little guy is adorable! Plus, as Professor Z noted, I do have more than one handbag. What I really like about the new design is how quickly you can take it off and clip it on.

See! Change isn’t SO bad!

  4. My little one saw your bat hand sanitizer thingy and now he wants one! I am so proud! There is a bath and body here in Canada so I may make a trip. I wont put sanitizer in his (I can see a mess) but he wants it as a decoration.

  6. I'm with you! Halloween is a lifestyle, though there are things that I do put out only for Halloween. I don't leave my tabletop Halloween tree out all year and some Jack O'Lantern themed lanterns. Those come out only for the holiday.

The Yankee Candle gals know me and Ed. They started to tell me all about what's going to happen in a few weeks! WAHOO! We are going to make our rounds tonight and tomorrow, just to see who has what.

Now see, that little bat looks awesome on the new bag. AWESOME!

    1. Awww, it's a bummer that other countries don't support the overly commercialized slice of consumerism that we have in the States... ;P We'll just have to spread the Halloween love around the world!

    1. I go to Target for specifics like the bat and pumpkin Pyrex. Last year they had a ghost too but I didn't buy it.

I did find some amazing sheer curtains with velvet bats there. I think it was two years ago. And I've found some trays but you always have to dig for the good stuff. Either way, I still like seeing the decor :D

  10. This makes me want to start decorating! Must resist! It also reminds me that I've always wanted to take an old doll house and turn it into a haunted mansion. Maybe one day I will get around to that. I love your display and look forward to more Halloween goodness from you. :)

    1. I saw a Pinterest pin with a dollhouse that was changed into a haunted mansion and it was amazing. It inspired me to do the same on a much smaller scale. It was fun to decorate but holy moly dollhouse furniture is pricey!!!

  11. Making me hanker for Halloween here...it's my wedding anniversary and I usually spend it in Whitby at the goth festival. This year we're going to the Bram Stoker Film Festival the weekend before so will be home for the first time in 10 years...you've inspired me to start looking for something different to do, and so far I've found ghost walks round my home town and a day of spookiness at a local museum called Beamish which is brilliant, a recreated farm / mining village from the 1910's. I can just smell their home made cinder toffee now...

  12. This post brings such excitement! Halloween is my favorite holiday and though I have some old gothic and monster items out year around, the house gets a total makeover starting mid-September! My finds at Pier1 so far were the smoky glass pumpkins and gray woodland candles. They will mix and match with a lot of my black pieces. Will probably go back for a mercury glass skull and yes, those glimmer strings!
